Presenting the partners: GreenFlux

GreenFlux aims to enable electric driving by developing a reliable and complete charging network in the Netherlands.
GreenFlux Assets BV builds and exploits an intelligent charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) along Dutch highways, at industrial and office areas, at campuses and at private homes.
“GreenFlux offers smart and innovative solutions to support electric driving”, says Michel Bayings, project manager at GreenFlux and technical coordinator for INVADE.
Award-winning device
He explains that this is done via two main offerings. Firstly, Greenflux has a unique cloud-based service and operations platform for charge infrastructure and EV driver management.
“Our platform combines state-of-the-art technology, industry leading expertise, and easy solutions for managing large infrastructures of charge points over open protocols and systems, allowing every charge station to connect to the platform”, he states.
Secondly, GreenFlux has developed an award-winning Smart Charging Controller.
“Our high-tech controller can turn every charge point into a connected device. By creating a connected device, charge points are ready for revenue management and many other smart charging solutions. You can manage your charge point without having to be in the same country”, explains Bayings.
EVs to balance the grid
GreenFlux contributes to the INVADE project for several reasons, one of them being the amount of renewable energy needed for electric vehicles in the future.
“Electric vehicles will have a huge impact on the energy grid. This can only be managed if it is done in a very smart way. GreenFlux’s core business is making infrastructure smart and ensuring that the management of that infrastructure is also set up in a smart way”, notes Bayings. He adds:
“Greenflux participates in INVADE to show and prove that, both on a small and a large scale, electric vehicles can be used for balancing the energy grid, make maximum use of renewable energy and keep the consumer and EV driver happy”.
GreenFlux’s role in INVADE
The company’s core project activities are the integrated INVADE platform (Work Package 8) and domain 1 and 2 of the Dutch pilot (Work Package 10.4).
“Greenflux is responsible for the pilot in the Netherlands. Alongside ElaadNL, we will set up four different pilots, from small to large scale, and from private to public situations”, explains the project manager.
In addition, GreenFlux will contribute to management (WP1), dissemination and communication (WP 2), exploitation (WP 9), the overall INVADE architecture (WP 4), the flexibility management system (WP 5), the communication platform (WP 7) and business models and energy market structures (WP 9).
“Another important contribution from us is the promotion of the use of open standards in the project. Standards like OCPP and OCPI are crucial if you want to be able to scale up, and to ensure that a vendor locking will not happen”, Bayings emphasizes.
